According to Brussels statistics, Anderlecht is the third community in importance of the Area.
The City of Anderlecht has many tourist riches, unfortunately very badly known...
Of abundant contrast, the ultra modern subway station Saint Handlebar opposes its single design to the Collegial of Saint-Pierre and Guidon, which represents the only jewel of Gothic art, one of most remarkable of the Brabant.
Walking through some typical narrow street of the city you will discover the “Béguinage” which was founded in XIII century. This place, full of charm and atmosphere, nowadays shelters a small museum of local religious art and folk.

Talking about Anderlecht is also talking about Désiré Erasme!
It is in a pretty residence made of bricks, built in 1515 for the canon Pierre Wichmans and surrounded of a philosophical garden, that the famous humanist character lived in 1521. Transformed into a museum, since 1932, it offers you the possibility to discover many paintings, engraving, documents and manuscripts illustrating Erasme' fame whose influence on History and European civilization was remarkable.
