LIMOGES,
Colors of a city
We imagined for you a discovery tour which will enable you to understand and appreciate the city. To organize your stay in Limoges, we invite you to visit the official Tourist Office of Limoges (click on the above link).
You will find there any information you need to prepare your stay: a travel map, accommodations (hotels, B&B, apartments, camping…), restaurants and week-end suggestions to invite you to stay.

On this site you will also discover the rich heritage of the city, the gallo-roman city, former capital of Lemovices, hosting ruins of the Crypt of Saint martial, where was developed during middle age an important pilgrimage and a rich abbey, heart of polyphonic music and champlevé enamels workshops sold all over Christian western world. It also hosted a center of remarkable manuscripts.

Still alive, the chinaware know-how to renew its forms and its decorations as testify visibly some charming contemporary models in many shops of the town center and stores of factory. Of its industrial past related to the chinaware, Limoges preserved a chinaware furnace, and numerous architectural ceramics decorating the frontage of town houses. Remarkable old pieces are exposed in the national museum of A. Dubouché chinaware.
The architecture of the end of the XIX century and the XX century gives the image of a city turned towards the future thanks to the use of new materials such as: metal for the Market hall (1878), concrete for the Benedictines' railway station (1929) or glass and steel for ESTER-technopolis (1993), the Francophone multimedia library (1998) and the Zenith (2007).

The Tourist Board endeavors to make you discover all the facets of the city: its history and its know-how in the field of enamel and chinaware thanks to guided tours, play grounds, creative visit, without forgetting a gastronomy tour inside the city.
